Parched earth, ardent spring ~ May 11 to June 7, 2023

The UP Vargas Museum, together with Tin-aw Art Projects, presents the exhibition "Parched earth, ardent spring" with works by artists Ambie Abaño, Virgilio Aviado, Imelda Cajipe-Endaya, Ronyel Compra, Rey Concepción, Brenda V. Fajardo, Ofelia Gelvezón-Téqui, Caroline Ongpin, Henrielle Baltazar Pagkaliwangan, Anton Villaruel, and Pam Yan-Santos. Artists ponder the ideas of the indispensable and the foundational from which creative expression springs. Works for the exhibition include large-scale installations, site-specific prints, and print works from the 1970s to the present.

The exhibition offers explorations of artistic consciousness through printmaking not just as a process but as a primary medium; traditionally entailing the transfer of images onto paper, printmaking has since expanded to include other surfaces. It accounts for what artists consider the bedrock shaping them as individuals and members of a larger society. These creative foundations can be found in spirituality, whether faith in religion or belief in humanity or from daily life encounters and their engagements with their immediate environments.
